What Facebook’s Social Jobs Partnership means for you…

After taking some time to review Facebook’s new social jobs partnership app, I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s not going to do much for anyone… which sounds harsh so here’s why:

  1. It just aggregates jobs from different job board (US.Jobs, Monster, Work4Labs, Jobvite & Branchout)
  2. It doesn’t give the candidate/user anymore options that the traditional job boards besides being able to share on directly on Facebook (which many job board (and JXT’s job board technology) can already do
  3. It’s an app – so I can’t see the average user going out an searching for this app unless there became a link on your newsfeed/home page to view jobs?
  4. The location functionality is a simlp zip code or entering in keywords so it’s not really going to work for use out here in Aussieland.
  5. Can’t post jobs through Facebook you have to go through one of the above mentioned job boards

It’s a nice idea, but I think what people really wanted to see what a job board with similar functionality/availability to the old Facebook marketplace… but alas that is not what we are getting. grr.

Chrome extension lets you read Facebook links without installing bad-idea apps

bluechoochoo:

The Oatmeal did a pretty great describing how awful 3rd party Facebook reader apps are. (tl;dr- they lock basic URLs away from you until you agree to install an app that will passively share what you read on Facebook where your friends see it and something something domino effect. RIP you.)

NEW - “Acquaintances list” on Facebook…

After hiding a friend’s post in my newsfeed today I was prompted with yet ANOTHER new feature the “Acquaintances List” aka the people you don’t want to hear from list…

It allows you to select 35 people to see less from (see below) - they give you suggestions which I assume the determine from the amount of interaction. To me it seems counterproductive to Facebook…

  1. I like randomly getting snippet and being like OH YEAH that person from high school - then clicking into their profile and stalking the shit out of them or maybe just saying “hi, long time”
  2. If I didn’t hear from there shouldn’t I just de-friend them… on Facebook it’s called “Friending someone” and I don’t know about you but I like to listen to my friends and occasionally ignore - BUT when I CHOOSE to ignore not when Facebook thinks a post needs to be ignore.
Anyways, What do you think of this new feature… would you use it?

Facebook: How to unfollow posts you’ve liked or commented on…

So your friend just got engaged, did well on a test, had a baby, made a million dollars - whatever… so you write “Awesome!” “Congrats!” “Knew you could do it!” “Give me some $$s” but let’s face it, you know everyone and their grandma is going to comment on the post and you don’t really care to read it or get notified when they do. Facebook now has a simple and easy way to stop following posts/pictures etc that you interact with.

1. Click on your notifications - where offending posts reside.

2. Hover over top-right hand side of the box until and “x” and “unfollow” appears

3. Click “Unfollow”

Yep. you’re done. Easy, eh?

**You can always click undo to resume following a post :D

Facebook Changes… AGAIN! boo

Don’t freak out yet, it’s a small change but it may effect the design of your profile/cover photos… Facebook has changed the new profile picture will appear as 160×160 pixels and will sit 23 pixels from the left and 210 pixels from the top of the page.

This means your coverphoto may look off and will need to be re-positioned/designed to avoid the profile picture covering up words/images you have put in there!

On the bright side this does give more opportunity for your profile picture to shine

Why are you so angry? So what… Facebook buys Instagram.

So Facebook buys Instagram for $1B and my new feed blows up with anger… but all I have to say is:  Who cares?

You can already upload straight to Facebook photos on location, sure Instagram has cool filters so maybe Facebook will add that but I am not sure if they will change Instagram much more than that… I am sure Facebook only bought Instagram for the patents they probably hold with the technology otherwise Facebook would have just copied that shit and been done with it.

Just think of it as one less social media site which I am ok with.

I imagine everyone will continuing Instagram-ing but it’ll be more integrate with Facebook… so lets just all take a deep breath people.

St. Paddy's Day FB Competition: Designed/Developed by @mlaurenw

The latest competition for one of my recruiter clients. It’s St. Paddy’s themed (obviously) and he just wanted “lots of Guinness”  which I think was achieved! See the images here: http://tmblr.co/Z4OOqvHbpxhf
